"That's the life they lived"

A father in the service with orders out of town
A son who hears they're moving takes a final look around
A mother sits him down, tells him not to shed a tear
They're moving to another place, the second time this year

With parents in the service they move from town to town
Never really had a home and no roots to be found
The friends they made so quickly were the friends they lost too fast
That's the life they lived as a military brat.

As children growing up around the world they saw it all
From the bombing of pearl harbor to the mighty Berlin wall
Even though a place to call a home was very rare
If home is where the heart is, their home is everywhere

With parents in the service they move from town to town
Never really had a home and no roots to be found
The friends they made so quickly were the friends they lost too fast

It only takes a moment
To make a brand new friend
But in another instant
They have both moved on again

With parents in the service they move from town to town
Never really had a home and no roots to be found
The friends they made so quickly were the friends they lost too fast
That's the life they lived as a military brat.
