Virginia Leone Chaplin Burnell8/3/25-10/5/06 Virginia died peacefully at home on October 5, 2006. Born August 3, 1925 in Honolulu, she grew up as an Army brat living in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont, Wyoming, Georgia and New York. She graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1943 and received a B.A. degree in Art from Michigan State University in 1947, where she was an active member of the Delta Zeta sorority. She worked with Army Special Services in France, Japan and San Luis Obispo in the early 1950s. She married Frederick Burnell in 1957, raised 3 children and returned to school for her teaching credential. She worked for nursery schools and then as a Library Assistant for the San Jose Public Library until her retirement in 1982. At that time, she was able to indulge her love of travel, joining many Elderhostel excursions to China, Tibet, Costa Rica, Brazil, Kenya and South Africa. Surviving are her daughters Diana and Laura of San Jose and son Fritz and his wife Sophia of Campbell. The memorial service was held on October 14, 2006 at the Willow Glen Funeral Home, 1039 Lincoln Avenue, San Jose. Private graveside services were scheduled at a later date.
