THE NOISE OF PEACE
by Lynda Harrold-Blake
My dad flew a B-52 which made an incredible amount of noise on take off and landing. True Air Force family, we lived almost at the end of the runway. One day my mother was outside talking to the neighbor and a 52 took off, obliterating all conversation. When quiet was restored, the civilian neighbor had big complaints about the sound. My mother looked her in the eye and said, "That's the sound of your freedom." Not another word was heard from the complainer.
