My father, Tsgt Marv Canupp, was career Air Force and never had a stateside assignment!
Growing up, my brother and I had some very rich experiences. We traveled the world, made many friends and actually lived in one place for a number of years. I've always respected my life as an Air Force Brat.
I remember that my college friends thought I must come from a very wealthy family because of all of our travels. Little did they know that monetary wealth is unknown in military families. They do, however, have a different kind of wealth. One that comes from shared experiences and living away from home. I've always known this but never more than when my father passed away four years ago. I posted a message on our base's website within hours of his passing. I received e-mail from people I'd never met and many from old friends. In fact, I continued to receive messages for almost a year. I learned many things about my father from those messages. Most importantly, I learned that we were a wealthy family afterall...
